Privacy policy

Last updated: 19 October 2026

Groovit is an app that opens music links in the streaming service you use. It is built to work with as little data as possible: there is no account, no advertising and no analytics. This policy explains exactly what the app sends over the internet, to whom, and why.

Who we are

Groovit (the app and the website groovit.app) is made by an independent developer. For anything about this policy or your data, write to hello@groovit.app.

The short version

What the app sends, and to whom

Links you open with Groovit

When you open or share a music link with Groovit, the app sends that link, or the title and artist it contains, to look up the same song in your service. Depending on the link, these requests go to Songlink/Odesli (api.song.link), Apple’s iTunes Search, Deezer, YouTube and YouTube Music, and SoundCloud. Searches include the country or region set on your phone, so results match your local catalog. The requests contain no account, advertising or device identifier. As with any internet request, these services see your IP address; their own privacy policies apply.

Playlists

When you open a playlist link, the app reads the playlist’s public page or public API at the service it came from (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer or YouTube Music), the same way a web browser would, and loads cover images from that service. It does not sign in to your accounts.

Screenshots

Text recognition runs entirely on your device. The image is not uploaded anywhere. Only the recognized song titles and artist names are searched in the catalogs listed above.

On Android, the first time text in a particular script is recognized, the app downloads a free recognition model (Tesseract) from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) or GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com). These requests contain nothing about you or your screenshots. On iOS, recognition uses Apple’s built-in system and downloads nothing.

Our server (api.groovit.app)

Spotify has no public search, so to open the exact track in Spotify the app sends the song’s title and artist, plus your phone’s two-letter country code, to our server, which looks them up in Spotify’s catalog. The server keeps no logs of these requests and stores nothing about you; it only caches search results (song lists, with no information about who searched) for up to 7 days so the same search doesn’t hit Spotify twice. The app also asks the server, every few hours, which features are switched on.

The server runs on Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses to deliver the service and protect it from abuse, as described in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Purchases

Payments are handled entirely by Google Play or the App Store. The app only learns whether you have bought the full version. We never see your name, card details or payment address.

Apple Music library (iOS)

If you choose to save a playlist to Apple Music, iOS asks for permission to access your music library. Groovit uses it only to create that playlist; it doesn’t read your library.

Safari extension (iOS)

If you turn on the Groovit extension in Safari, it runs only on the web pages of the music services and song.link, where it sends the music link you opened to the Groovit app. It doesn’t read or send anything from other websites.

What stays on your device

Your chosen streaming service, your settings, the number of free tries used, whether the full version is unlocked, and which of your installed apps open music links (so the app can guide you through setup). This stays on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

The website

groovit.app sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads nothing from other websites. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.

Email

If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply, and delete the correspondence when it’s no longer needed.

Legal basis and your rights

Where data protection law such as the GDPR applies, the app’s requests are made because you ask for a feature (performance of a service you requested), and the hosting provider processes IP addresses on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure service. Because we don’t keep personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to show or delete — but you can always ask us about your data, ask us to delete emails you sent, or complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Groovit is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes

If we change how the app handles data — for example, when we add a new feature — we will update this page before the change is released and change the date at the top.
